One of us had a simple thought in 2006, “Wouldn’t it be nice to knit a holiday gift for my mom?” Problem was, the mom had died from lung cancer one year prior to this girl’s decent into knitting. Then she thought, “Hey, I could knit something for someone battling cancer!” Unfortunately, she was a slow knitter and decided to see if her knitting group would like to join in. Of course, the knitting group said yes, but they also were concerned, “We are only so many knitters and crocheters. Can I ask my friend to help?” From there, this simple idea snowballed into Made By Hand.

So what is Made By Hand? We are knitters and crocheters and now quilters and seamstresses and any other crafter who use our hobby/obsession/art/craft to do a little good in this world. We make pieces by hand and donate them. And we try to take as many people down with us as we can!

From August 2008-October 2009 we are making things for domestic violence shelters, but who knows what we’ll do next year? We’re in our third year and hoping that this year we can go bigger than last!
