Trucking Right Along

First, a quick thanks to Secret Mojo who put some word out for us on his hysterical (and sadly true) entry about knitters. That was a complete surprise and a wonderful thing to do. We all love Secret Mojo around here. Let’s have a moment for the love.

Okay, moment over.

Things are moving over here. Word of mouth is getting out about our project. Quite honestly more than we expected, but then again, we were hoping to get 10 hats made and now we have hope that we could get a whopping 11! We’ve made some information updates to the site and started making our own hats. I personally am on the 10th row of my first hat. Thrilling, no? I thought so too. I think Tryslora has made about 17 by now, but who’s counting? Apparently me. And I’m tagging along with a few knitters/crocheters later to buy hat yarn (on sale!). Hopefully they all find what they want and I can keep my yarn molestation under legal levels.

Good for Secret Mojo for giving you a boost. I had read something about your Chemo Caps, but didn’t realize you had a whole donation project going on. I’ll read up on it and see about contributing something to it.

The level of activity you have going on with it is wonderful! Sooooo productive.

    Have a good one,
    firefly

Heh, not 17, not yet (wait’ll I’m back from LA!). I’ve taken pics of the first one (crochet) and will try to post later tonight or tomorrow. I’m about oh…. um… three inches into the first knit one and have started a second crochet one. If I decided to do them all in the first sort of floppy pattern I could probably spit them out really quickly, but I’m thinking not everyone wants a half-clingy beret.

Thanks for the love! Hope your drive is wildly successful.

I’m curious though. As a COMPLETE beginner, would it be possible for me to knit a worthy hat in a month? I’m guessing “not,” but if it’s possible…

I think it’s possible to knit a hat in a month. There are styles like this (http://www.theanticraft.com/archive/beltane06/beltaneflame.htm) that is just one big rectangle folded in half then you can add tassles on the ends. If you have a live knitter you can run to him/her for help. Also sites like http://www.knittinghelp.com is a great tool for extra help.

But if not, the word of mouth has helped us immensely and we still, on occassion, send over the love. LOVE!!!!!

  5. secretmojo Says:

Wow. Okay. I’ve done a rectangle before. One trip to the craft store, and let the hilarity ensue!

  6. tryslora Says:

secretmojo, did you say that you crochet?

  7. secretmojo Says:

I suppose I could crochet a hat. The “beginner” crochet designs look better to me than the easy knits. I’ve crocheted before, but knitting seems like it gives a better stitch to me, and all four (ahem) of my crochet attempts had mysterious holes and drunken lines in them.

Do you think it would be faster to crochet a hat? (I’m afraid I might not get this beast done in time)

  8. kisknit Says:

I don’t crochet only knit. Maybe someday I’ll crochet. A few of my knitting friends started out with crochet and they swear crochet is faster. I don’t know anyone who did the reverse as odd as that sounds. I honestly don’t know which is faster. Don’t worry if you don’t get the beast done in time. Send it late if you want and we’ll take care of it, just don’t spread that around too much :)

  9. kisknit Says:

Secretmojo, you are not alone worrying about time. Since we’ve had some response concerned about time (as you can see in Tryslora’s latest blog entry) we pushed it back to Oct 31. Halloween!!!!

  10. tryslora Says:

I find some crocheting faster, some not. That I completed is very lacy and sort of delicate, because it’s all double crochet. The hat I’m knitting is going slower. The hat I’m crocheting (http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/cpatt07.htm) seems to be going a bit quicker, but I can’t be sure since one goes from top down and the other from bottom up! *grins*

kisnit, I’ll change the date in my knit-fu post. Thanks.

I suppose if it’s a toss up between chrochet and knitting a hat, I’ll go with knitting. I really wanted to do a beret or one of those turban hats, but those are way beyond my limits. That AntiCraft one that you showed, kisnit, seems like what I’ll go with. Without the pattern on it, because that scares the poop out of me. (I considered this one, but thought it was too drab: http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=123 ).
